AEOSearch or Profound

The same eight questions we ask of every tool on the list, ours included. Profound's answers are quoted from its own pages with the day we read them; ours are written against our code, and the price, assistants and passes are read from it. Where Profound is the better pick, that comes first.

Where Profound Is the Better Pick

The Eight Questions

Each one is something you can test in a trial of either tool. A cell that says “not stated” means we found no page that says it, not that the tool cannot do it.

  1. Lowest Listed Price

What the cheapest thing on the price page costs, and what it buys.

    Profound
“Free … 50 prompts run daily for 7 days … Custom … Up to 9 Answer Engines tracked”tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: A free seven-day trial, then Enterprise at a custom price; the brand plans show no dollar figure. The agency tab lists Agency Growth at $99 a month plus add-ons: a client workspace at $399 a month, five trial workspaces at $199 a month.
    AEOSearch
A free scorecard: 4 questions on ChatGPT and Gemini. A report of your own from $25, priced before you pay.
  2. Assistants Measured

Which AI assistants the numbers come from.

    Profound
“We query the front-end experiences that normal users see when they visit AI platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Google Gemini, Grok, and DeepSeek.”tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: The trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews; Enterprise up to nine.
    AEOSearch
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode. You choose which ones a report asks.
  3. Times Each Question Is Asked

An assistant answers the same question differently from one run to the next, so a number built on one answer per question can move on a reroll.

    Profound
“we run a portfolio of prompts against each AI platform once a day, every day, and track how the numbers move over time.”tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: One answer per prompt, platform, region and persona each day, per the vendor's docs and blog.
    AEOSearch
Once or 3 times per question, chosen before you pay and printed on the report.
  4. Model Named on the Answer

ChatGPT is several models, and they disagree. A number that does not say which one answered cannot be checked against the app.

    Profound
“The Profound app's "Compare across models" view shows the same metric split by which AI surface served the answer.”docs.tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: Per the docs, “model” is the AI surface that served the answer; their own example labels ChatGPT “gpt-4o”.
    AEOSearch
Stored with every answer, and printed on the report for each engine whose provider reports it.
  5. Web Search Labelled

An answer written without a web search reports what a model remembers, not what the live assistant says today.

    Profound
“Other tools pull AI responses from the API. We capture directly from the browser—what you see in Profound is what your customers see when they query AI.”tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: Captured from the consumer app. Its API carries a per-answer search_triggered field; the product pages do not say whether the app shows it.
    AEOSearch
Stored with every answer. The report says, engine by engine, whether web search was on, and for Claude and Perplexity, how many answers searched.
  6. Answers You Can Read

Whether the full answer behind a number opens when you ask for it.

    Profound
“Answers are stored once. Topics, tags, and brands are applied from your current configuration on every request, so editing your setup changes historical numbers.”docs.tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: Answers are kept, and past numbers are recomputed from the current setup.
    AEOSearch
Every answer is stored in full, and the report opens the text behind its numbers.
  7. Branded Questions Counted Apart

A question that already names you is one you will almost always win. Mixed into the headline, it inflates it.

    Profound
Not stated on any Profound page we read (2026-10-05).
    AEOSearch
Yes. Questions that name you or a competitor you track are scored apart from the ones that name none of them.
  8. Changes to Your Site

Whether it edits your site, and whether each edit can be undone.

    Profound
“Agents connect to your existing CMS and publish approved content without manual transfers or extra steps. … Every Agent run includes an approval step before anything publishes”tryprofound.com, read 2026-10-05Our reading: Publishes through your CMS; its help pages add that the approval step can be turned off. Undoing a CMS publish is not described.
    AEOSearch
Only through our plugins, only after you opt in on that site, and every change carries a rollback. The platform itself never edits your site.

Check Us the Same Way

Run the free scorecard: it shows the stored answer for up to three questions you lost, and a paid report opens every answer behind every number, with the model where the provider names one, the search label and the full text. The standard lists the five marks every number carries, and the other comparisons ask the same questions of every tool on the list. Something here wrong about Profound?
